The Monadnock Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Coalition has signed onto the public statement issued by the NH Collective Power Coalition following the killing of Nickenley Turenne in Manchester on December 6, 2025.

For our coalition, this marks an important step. While much of our work has centered on education, relationship-building, and creating space for community dialogue, we also recognize that there are moments when silence doesn’t align with our mission.

The statewide statement calls for transparency, accountability, and clear communication in the ongoing investigation. It also outlines how New Hampshire handles cases involving police use of deadly force and raises questions about policies that allow officers involved in such incidents to return to active duty during investigations.

By signing on, we are affirming our belief that public trust requires openness, that Black and unhoused community members deserve safety rooted in dignity, and that accountability strengthens, not weaken, our institutions.

This is not about partisanship. It is about consistency. If we say we care about belonging, then we must also care about what happens when members of our broader community experience harm.

We remain committed to thoughtful conversation, factual information, and respectful civic engagement. This moment represents a step forward in how we live our values together.
